Dealing with opposite sided players is a problem for most judo athletes, myself included. Developing good habits and movement patterns will help us deal with those opposite sided players during randori and competitions. This is a drill you can start doing now starting off at a slow pace. The video explains each step you will need to follow. As you get more and more comfortable with the movement you can speed up the footwork, hand speed and overall intensity of the grip fighting. Again the goal is to be able to move in a direction that leads my opponent into my strong attack and also properly preventing them from gripping you. Remember the key area of focus on the is to move laterally with your partner and not in a circle. Lastly, you want to be able to defend the possibility of a high hand coming down your back.
