Arm Pin To Triangle & Armbar
- Make sure you keep pressure while in side control
- Try and hide the fact that you are holding the skirt of your opponent
- Don’t wait, after you secure the position attack right away
Passing the guard should be the easy part during a BJJ match even though it may not seem that way. However, once you have passed their guard, now you have to secure that submission. A lot of BJJ players rely on the “points” awarded to win matches rather than trying to submit. I do think it’s important to make sure you’re in the proper position before going for the submission, however, sometimes you have to just go for it.
When your opponent is being very defensive, you need to be able to understand what they are doing specifically that is preventing you from advancing. Once you do that, you have to have a solution to remove it from the grappling equation. By pinning their arm you allow yourself to focus on the things that matter, when you don’t have to focus on keeping your opponent in a position you can start to hunt for the submission. This is a personal favorite of mine.
